The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 ended in The Tiananmen Square Massacre. It made the world shocked. Although this democratic movement in China did not success, it completely changed the international order of Eastern and Western political parties. The people all over the world admire the Chinese students' movement.

Factual

It was a series of demonstrations in and near Beijing Tiananmen Square led by students in China between 15 Apr and 4 Jun 1989. The demonstrators appealed for anti-corruption, democracy and human rights without violence. The news of the movement was spread quickly across the land and the world. Many people supported the students. On 4 Jun early morning, China government ordered tanks to clear Tiananmen Square. The government military response to the event caused plenty of civilians and students dead or injured.

Influence

Even though the results of the Tiananmen Movement evolve into a tragedy, the democratic movement really affected the world, especially the Eastern European democratic development. The Communist Parties of Eastern European countries were soon collapsed by the civil democratic reforms. The political order of the world was totally altered.

I am so impressive by the behaviour of the Chinese students and civilians. They did make a crucial contribution to the world’s democratic movement.

Several walls, referred to as the Great Wall of China, were built since the 5th century BC. The most famous is the wall built between 220–200 BC by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang; little of it remains; it was much farther north than the current wall, which was built during the Ming Dynasty.

The Great Wall stretches over approximately 6,400 km (4,000 miles).At its peak, the Ming Wall was guarded by more than one million men. It has been estimated that somewhere in the range of 2 to 3 million Chinese died as part of the centuries-long project of building the wall.

Before the use of bricks, the Great Wall was mainly built from Earth or Taipa, stones, and wood.
During the Ming Dynasty, however, bricks were heavily used in many areas of the wall, as were materials such as tiles, lime, and stone. The size and weight of the bricks made them easier to work with than earth and stone, so construction quickened. Additionally, bricks could bear more weight and endure better than rammed earth. Stone can hold under its own weight better than brick, but is more difficult to use. Consequently, stones cut in rectangular shapes were used for the foundation, inner and outer brims, and gateways of the wall. Well… for me the best achievement of all history has been the pizza invention.

If I had to eat pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I wouldn’t have any problem at all. It’s just delicious! Pizza can be found almost in anyplace and can be eaten as a snack or as a meal, and depending of the number of hungry people pizza can also be found in many sizes. Moreover, pizza can be definitely shared. Have you ever thought of having just one hamburger with for 4 people? Or maybe a hot dog for 6? No way! With pizza it’s just different, if any group decide to buy a pizza everybody will be happy enough with a single slice.

One other advantage of pizza is that you can just put everything that you want on it and with not too much effort and money, after 20 minutes, you’ll be the happiest person in all over the world looking at the creation that is about to be eaten by you. Ham, bacon, tomato, garlic, tomato sauce and melted cheese… mama mia! And the best thing of all is that I might eat pizza tonight!

Easter Island is over 2,000 miles from the nearest population center, (Tahiti and Chile), making it one of the most isolated places on Earth. A triangle of volcanic rock in the South Pacific - it is best known for the giant stone monoliths, known as Moai, that dot the coastline. The early settlers called the island "Te Pito O Te Henua" (Navel of The World). Admiral Roggeveen, who came upon the island on Easter Day in 1722, named it Easter Island. Today, the land, people and language are all referred to locally as Rapa Nui.

The population of Easter Island reached its peak at perhaps more than 10,000, far exceeding the capabilities of the small island's ecosystem. Resources became scarce, and the once lush palm forests were destroyed - cleared for agriculture and moving the massive stone Moai. In this regard, Easter Island has become, for many, a metaphor for ecological disaster.
Thereafter, a thriving and advanced social order began to decline into bloody civil war and, evidently, cannibalism. Eventually, all of the Moai standing along the coast were torn down by the islanders themselves. All of the statues now erected around the island are the result of recent archaeological efforts.

Hanging Gardens of Babylon NO.18

One of the things I always find amazing is the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the walls of Babylon were considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. They were both supposedly built by Nebuchadnezzar II around 600 BC .

The Hanging Gardens are extensively documented by Greek historians such as Strabo and Diodorus Siculus, but otherwise there is little evidence for their existence. In fact, there are no Babylonian records of any such gardens having existed. Some evidence gathered at the excavation of the palace at Babylon has accrued, but does not completely substantiate what look like fanciful descriptions. Some schools of thought think that through the ages the location may have been confused with gardens that existed at Nineveh as tablets from there clearly showing gardens have been found. Writings on these tablets describe the possible use of something similar to an Archimedes' screw as a process of raising the water to the required height.

According to accounts, the gardens were built to cheer up Nebuchadnezzar's homesick wife, Amyitis. Amyitis, daughter of the king of the Medes, was married to Nebuchadnezzar to create an alliance between the nations. The land she came from, though, was green, rugged and mountainous, and she found the flat, sun-baked terrain of the Mesopotamia depressing. The king decided to recreate her homeland by building an artificial mountain with rooftop gardens.

The Hanging Gardens probably did not really "hang" in the sense of being suspended from cables or ropes. The name comes from an inexact translation of the Greek word kremastos or the Latin word pensilis, which means not just "hanging” but "overhanging," as in the case of a terrace or balcony.

The Greek geographer Strabo, who described the gardens in the first century BC, wrote, "It consists of vaulted terraces raised one above another, and resting upon cube-shaped pillars. These are hollow and filled with earth to allow trees of the largest size to be planted. The pillars, vaults, and terraces are constructed of baked brick and asphalt."

If the gardens did exist they would have presented an amazing spectacle: A green, leafy, artificial mountain rising off the plain.

I am an international student from Hong Kong. I am writing to complain about the homestay service.

As everyone knows, education is an important industry of Australia. Thousands of students study here per year. They spend plenty of money and a lot of time to study abroad. Most of the students live with the homestay families. So students usually get the first impression of Australia from the homestay family. It is pity that my experience is bad. My schoolmates have similar situations as well. Thus this is not an individual event, but a common phenomenon.

First of all, the host family did not provide me enough food to eat. They only prepared a few pasta with sauce for dinner many times when they went out. There are limited biscuits and milk for breakfast. So far I had not got any lunch box prepared by the host family since my arrival.

Second, the homestay service agency should give an agreement to both parties, the host family and the students. This enables us to know the rules in details. However, I have not received such an agreement, so I cannot know what my rights are. The lack of the agreement causes a lot of misunderstanding.

Moreover, a schoolmate told me that the homestay family did not give her the house keys so she is not able to return home until the host family comes back. Some students were not allowed to access the internet. The reason is : there is limited time for accessing the internet . Do you think it is reasonable? The students are staying in Australia alone, who can help them?

In my opinion, the Education Bureau of Australia should make procedures to supervise the homestay services in order to improve the international image. I have the following proposals:

1) Every student should get the agreement. Both parties should follow it.

2) The agency should provide students a questionnaire. After the students left the family, the agency should collect the students’ suggestions and evaluate the families. If the service of a certain family does not reach a satisfactory standard for several times, then it should be blacklisted.

3) The government should provide a homestay service hotline or email for international students and let them access easily. Then the students can get assistance at once if they are in trouble.

Since I finally succeed to connect and until now, when I surf on the internet I am sent quite often to your website asking me to recharge my credit; I was even sent there when just had recharged my account a week ago and the statistics shown me that I still had Gigabytes to use. Moreover, most of the time I have to reconnect at least 3 or 4 times every time I want to access the internet, and the speed is never constant, most of the time is very slow.

Some days ago I went out of credit and the Optus’ software statistics show that I actually have downloaded 1.20 Giga Bytes and uploaded 168.62 Mega Bytes (what makes 1.36 Gigas of transferred data) since October 4 when I recharged for the last time $30, which should have let me transfer 2GB. I am sure that the problem neither is expiration since 30 days haven’t passed. What is the reason then for this inconsistence between what you have in your data bases and what you sell to your customers?

Finally, in spite of the Quality of Service you have, I received this SMS and the website alert telling that you are going to double the price for this on November.

I am really of the opinion that having bought this service from Optus has been a total waste of both my time and money, and demand a complete refund of the modem and the SIM card which I also had to pay for.

Dear the owner of the TNG restaurant,

I am writing here to complain about the service and food in your restaurant yesterday.

I did book the table for 9 people the other day, but when we got there yesterday, the table was taken. After waiting 15 minutes, they arranged us another table where was pretty squeezy next to the bathroom. We had to wait 30 minutes for each service such as having menus, having water, ordering and waiting for each course.

On the entrée, one of the waiters was carrying soups to our table, his fingers touched into our soups when he places them on the table, which is unhygienic. Moreover, another waiter just poured the sauce from one of the main courses on my friend’s shoulder, which caused little slightly burn. The worst thing is everyone got sick after dinner on that night. They kept badly vomiting.

Therefore, I am writing this letter for the request of the responsible compensation for the services and sickness. I hope to receive the right response from you.

A complaint about the cinema

I'm writing here to complain about the quality of service and the bad environment of the cinema.

Last Saturday I went to watch a movie with my friend in your cinema. We bought a box of popcorn before entering the movie house.By the time when we were eating it, we discovered a dead cockroach burried inside. It was so disgusting that we threw the whole box away immediately.

In addition, when we were watching the film, people around us kept talking loudly to each other. We also heard cell phone ringing all the time. The cinema staffs who were standing beside the door were noticed about this situation, however, they did not take any action to warn the people. Instead, they just kept talking to each other and made the environment even more noisy. It seemed that they did not have the scense to maintain the discipline inside the movie house which they were supposed to do. It was really disturbing that we were not able to hear the sound of the movie and could not enjoy ourselves.

Morever, we went to the washroom and found that the floor was all wet. It was so slippery that my friend had fallen over and broke her leg. Also, it was so dirty and smelly that we couldn't stay inside for more than a few minutes. The door of each cubicle was filled with grafitti, some were even broken which were likey to fell down. The condition was very dangerous.

I felt really dissatisfied with the experience in your cinema. By the way, I was disappointed with the services I received as your cinema is said to be the best in the country. It had been a total waste of my time and money. I sincerely hope that you can take my opinion into consideration and made some improvement as soon as possible. Furthermore, I demand a total refund of everything I have paid, including tickets and food.

I am writing to inform you that the goods I ordered from your company have not been supplied correctly.

On 20th of October, 2008 I ordered 50 packs of Bronzer for Men foundation lotion. I am a professional make-up artist and, we are organising a work-shop for apprentices on 27th of October. This workshop is mainly based on men’s make-up. And therefore I ordered a considerable amount of the above product.

According to the information published on your website, it has been stated that the ordered goods will be delivered to any destination within 48 hours of purchase. However, it took approximately around five days for me to receive the goods I ordered.

However, the goods I received were not the same as I ordered. It is called Bare Minerals Loose Foundation, which is strongly meant for women. And also, according to the information published on your website, the customer does not need to pay any extra money for the delivery. Nevertheless I had to pay $50 as the delivery charges.

Since I am busy with my work, I made a phone call for your company and informed them about this incident. But, I was asked to place the complaint in written form, which takes a lot of time to solve my problem.

Therefore, I am writing this letter to request for my actual products as well as a refund for the delivery charges I have paid. And please make sure that such errors do not happen again.
